The Farm

Here we are. You’ve stumbled upon my very first blog that is going to be all about teaching and learning in the 21st century and using technology; yet, I’ve chosen the image of my family’s barn that was built in 1890 on Schilly Road in Central New York to headline my page. That barn has witnessed generations come and go, withstood some pretty serious blizzards, and while it no longer houses animals, it still has a purpose. It’s our landmark, a treasure trove, and the backdrop of an upcoming wedding.

But why is it here? It’s a reminder that while some things in life stay the same, change is inevitable and necessary. The barn itself hasn’t really changed much in 130 years and that’s okay; education, on the other hand, is still the similar institution it always has been, and that’s not okay. We have the tools and technology to give education the much needed facelift so it doesn’t crumble – we just have to be willing to take a leap.
