ABOUT

Welcome! My name is Laura Schilly and I’ve been teaching high school English (grades 10-12) for 14 years. Go Northstars! I used to coach basketball, I work as a shoe fitting Jedi at a run speciality store (Fleet Feet Syracuse), I run, I love to cook, and I like to consider myself a “jack of all trades” – or at least someone who will Google it and give it a try – dryer belt broke, no problem; wax seal on the toilet, I got it; remodel an entire house with my dad, and we’re still speaking.

Because of this “I’m up for anything” attitude, I decided to embark on this journey of Digital Learning and Leading through Lamar University. In the last decade so much has changed, but education seems to lag behind. As a teacher who fancies herself innovative, I thought this would be an amazing opportunity for me to discover how best to engage and inspire my students in this new, ever-changing world.

Most importantly, I love all dogs, but mostly my girls. Look at those faces!

Books I Love to Teach

“Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.”

–Groucho Marx

Learning Manifesto

I cannot say I loved school, but I did fall in love with learning. I loved being able to figure things out, be challenged, and then conquer some new quest.

PLN

Here are some professional learning networks that I have recently joined, and, in hindsight, wish I has stumbled upon sooner.
