Digital Citizenship

As educators, jargon becomes a way of life. Our districts buy into the latest and greatest trends and we learn the lingo (sometimes begrudgingly).  Digital citizenship is more than jargon and it isn't a trend - it is urgent and schools must rise to the occasion of teaching students what it means to be a connected, responsible citizen in the plugged-in world.

After researching the ideas covered by digital citizenship I realized that we do touch on many topics simply by using technology in our classrooms. However, there are many more subtleties to what it means to be a "good" digital citizen. Below is a magazine I've created to provide an overview for teachers and administrators. By embedding digital citizenship into what we already do, I truly believe our students will be able to Respect, Connect and Change the World.

Want more information? In reflecting on my coursework and project for digital citizenship, I've realized this is not something that can wait. These ideas need to be taught to all of our students, parents, and staff. "Digital Citizenship: The Newest Core Subject?" attempts to further explain why.
